Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Information

Notes;

There are 2 styles of detectors in our homes;

1. Smoke detectors, which are located in the bedrooms

2. Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectors which are typically located near the garage entrance or similar hallway on the main floor, plus another at the top of the stairs

Smoke detectors have a life of about 12 years so will need to be replaced in 2028 or 2029

Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectors last 10 years and will need to be replaced now. The model originally installed in our homes is no longer available. It needs to be replaced with a new model, with interconnection to the other detectors and replaceable batteries. It requires a new power adapter. Bother the detector and adapter are available at Canadian Tire or Home Hardware.

The Sidney Fire Department will come out and install the new units at no cost. In addition, the Fire Department will come out once a year on request, to replace batteries, clean detectors and test the system.
